Overview

Football looks different everywhere. It might be played barefoot on sand as the sun drops over Rio, in the shadow of a fjord in the Faroe Islands with the wind dictating every pass, or beneath the lights of Europe’s grandest arenas on a midweek night. The setting may change but the pull remains reassuringly the same.

Independent magazine Glory was established to celebrate that allure and tell the stories of everyday fans, local champions and deep-rooted traditions – to find the joy in football’s authentic heart, wherever in the world it was beating. Ten years on, The Global Guide to Football Culture takes fans on journeys to and beyond the familiar superclubs, to the places where the game is still rooted in community: from Madrid to Marrakesh, Bucharest to Buenos Aires, Turin to Tokyo.

Produced by Glory and a team of the best football writers and photographers in the world, The Global Guide to Football Culture brings the game’s hidden corners to life, while shining new light on the familiar football destinations. Atmospheric essays and bold photography pair with local insights – where to go and what local delicacies to seek out – to create the definitive account of football and its people across the world.

The Book

Designed with Glory’s trademark bold and fresh aesthetic, the book features a purely photographic cover that captures the passion, intensity and atmosphere of the game. The standalone image shows a fan looking over his shoulder during the Poznan – a reminder of both the energy of the crowd and those electric moments when you just can’t look away.
Foil blocking is used on the spine and back of the book, which displays a selection of the footballing destinations that are featured within. Inside, the clean book design allows the resplendent photography to lead, transporting readers instantly into the action. Organised by destination, evocative essays and travel tips complete the picture.

Glory… focuses on what the game looks like away from the multimillion pound contracts and high-profile players […] The imagery is particularly beautiful.

Creative Review

One of the most aesthetically pleasing football publications around.

Game of the People

Anniversary Edition

The anniversary edition is housed in a magnetic-closure box with a simple foil design on the cover that replicates and extends the Glory logo. The minimalist black-on-black aesthetic is confident and elegant.
Inside the box is the book itself, which sits opposite a print pocket mounted on the interior panel of the box, which contains a carefully chosen print, selected by the Glory team. Foil on the pocket depicts the Glory logo and calls attention to the magazine's 10-year anniversary.

Our ultimate aim was to create something disruptive in the sector – football journalism had become so fast-paced and disposable, we wanted to produce something with real longevity, and selfishly, something we’d want on our own coffee tables.

Lee Nash, Glory co-founder

Like a mixture of an old-fashioned compilation tape, a collection of treasured football programmes and a dog-eared tour guide, this is a book that is going to take you places.

Tim Vickery
Meet the author

Glory was founded on a simple belief: that football doesn’t just live in the big stadiums. It’s on the backstreets of Pristina, in the bars of Seville and in the soul and swagger of supporters under Côte d’Ivoire’s evening sun. We’ve crossed continents to tell the stories others overlook, wrapping them up in a high-end football and travel publication, creating something with longevity in a fast-paced, disposable media landscape. Our award-winning magazine – sold in over 70 countries and stocked from London to Tokyo (even Hawaii) – celebrates football’s true soul. Voted Best Sports Magazine in 2023 at the International Creative Media Awards, Glory is where wanderlust meets the world’s game.
