Who we are and what we do
Volume (we/us) is a curated publishing platform created and owned by Thames & Hudson. Volume hosts time-limited fundraising campaigns for high-quality book publishing projects.
While a project is open for funding, visitors to the site are able to pledge for a selection of rewards, contributing to the overall amount raised towards a project’s funding goal. If the funding goal – set by Volume – is met in the time specified, the publication will proceed and each supporter will receive their chosen rewards. Should the funding goal not be met within the allotted time, supporters’ pledges will be refunded.

Legal matters
By using this site you agree to these terms and conditions and our privacy policy.
This site uses cookies. Please see our cookies policy.
We may update or amend these terms and conditions and our policies from time to time. We’ll let you know by updating this webpage. Amended terms will never apply retrospectively – we’ll tell you the exact date they come into effect, after which they will apply to all our business activities. If you do not agree to any of our terms and conditions or policies, you should not use this site.
The first part of these pages relate to supporters. If you’d like us to consider a potential book-publishing project for support, please see our Publish page, where we explain the process for proposals.
If you have any questions on these terms and conditions or any aspect of this site please contact us at: support@vol.co.
Getting started
You can browse Volume without an account, but if you want to become a supporter you will need to register with us and log in. We rely on you to supply us with complete and accurate contact, billing and shipping information so we can efficiently deliver your rewards. You need to be 18 years or older to open an account. We reserve the right to suspend or delete any account that is not genuine or where an account holder infringes our terms and conditions.
If you find out that someone’s used your account without your permission, you should report it to us immediately: support@vol.co.
You may cancel your account at any time by contacting us at: support@vol.co.
How pledging works
Each project will feature a family of rewards from which to choose, some of which may be available in limited numbers. We will indicate the funding target and the time within which the target must be met.
You will be charged when you place your pledge. However, if the project fails to meet its target within the stipulated time, your money will be refunded within 14 days.
You may cancel your pledge at any time save during the last 24 hours of a campaign. Once a project has been funded, you can only cancel or change your pledge with our agreement.
We reserve the right to refuse any pledge.
Book publishing projects are complex and may be subject to changes or delays as they evolve. We will keep you informed about a project by posting regular updates. From time to time something might happen to prevent a book going ahead and that causes us to remove the campaign from this site before, or even after, the fundraising target is met. We hope this is extremely unlikely, but in this case, we will notify you by email and refund your pledge within 14 days.
We will email you when the fundraising campaign is over, to tell you whether the target has been met and when you might expect your reward. The delivery date is an estimate not a guarantee. The schedule may change as Volume works on the project. When your reward is ready, we will prompt you to review your shipping details and provide any additional information we require to personalise or tailor your reward(s). It is your responsibility to ensure this information is correct and provided in good time for us to fulfil your reward(s).
In the event your reward arrives damaged, please let us know immediately: support@vol.co. We will either replace the reward or, if unavailable, refund your pledge within 14 days.
In the event you are not happy with your reward, please let us know within 7 days of receipt at support@vol.co. Provided you return your reward to us within 14 days, in good condition, we will refund your pledge within a further 14 days.
Payments
We use Stripe to process payments from supporters. Stripe have their own terms and conditions and by which, by making a pledge, you agree to be bound. We would like to stress that all credit card details are held by Stripe and not by Volume or Thames & Hudson.
Proposals
If you would like to send us a publishing proposal for consideration you may submit it here.
We would prefer proposals to be sent electronically, but if you would prefer to send yours to us by post, please send it to: Volume, High Holborn, London, WC1V 7QX. We are not responsible for any proposals being lost or damaged in the post or misdirected.
We are under no obligation to proceed with any proposal, and you will allow us an exclusive period of 60 days from the date of receipt to consider it. During this period you will not send your proposal to any other publisher or funding site, nor will you publish it yourself.
Notwithstanding the above, we will endeavour to respond to you within 30 days, but this could be longer during busy times of the year. We will inform you by email whether or not we would like to proceed with your proposal. This is at our sole discretion, and it is not our policy to discuss our decisions. Successful proposals will be subject to a full publishing agreement with Volume. If we decide to proceed, a letter of agreement will be sent to you for your consideration.
During the proposal and negotiation process, you agree to keep all details relating to your book project strictly confidential, and you will not disclose it to any third party save for colleagues in your organisation (if you have one) or your legal or financial advisors (if you have them).
You warrant: that any proposal you send to us is your original work and has not previously been published in any form save for any third party material that you have either express permission to include or which is permitted by fair use or dealing. In any event, you will properly indicate and credit any such material. You further warrant that your proposal contains no material that infringes any existing copyright, trademark, design or moral right or is obscene or offensive, defamatory, blasphemous, constitutes hate speech, is discriminatory or a misuse of private or confidential information, contains personal information about another person or is otherwise illegal and that all statements purporting to be facts are true and that any instruction will not cause injury, illness or damage to the reader. You will indemnify Volume/Thames & Hudson against any damage or loss they incur in consequence of a breach or alleged breach of any part of this warranty.
