Terms of service

Volume (we/us/our) is a curated publishing platform created and owned by Thames & Hudson Ltd. Volume hosts time-limited fundraising campaigns for high-quality books and related additional products, for preorders and limited stock orders, and for limited editions, which are limited by quantity. We also collaborate with other publishers to help facilitate and finance their publishing projects.

For time-limited fundraising campaigns, while a campaign is active, visitors to the website are able to pledge money towards its funding target, which is set by Volume. If the funding target is met or exceeded in the specified time, we will proceed and each supporter will receive the book (and additional product, if specified) they pledged for. Should the funding target not be attained within the allotted time, pledges will be refunded. Browse our current fundraising campaigns to learn more about how Volume works.

For campaigns that are not run on a fundraising basis (such as preorder and limited stock campaigns) no fundraising target shall be set, instead you may purchase the book (and additional product, if specified) at the price stated on the campaign page, plus delivery costs.

Legal matters

By using this website you agree to our terms and conditions including our privacy policy.

This website uses cookies. Please see our cookies policy.

We may update or amend our terms and conditions from time to time. We’ll let you know any changes by updating this webpage. Changes will never apply retrospectively, and we will specify the exact date changes come into effect, after which they will apply to all our business activities. If you do not agree to any of our terms and conditions, you should not use this website.

If you’d like us to consider a potential book-publishing project, please see our Publish page, where we explain the process for submitting proposals.

If you have any questions on our terms and conditions, policies or any aspect of this website please contact us at: hello@vol.co.

Getting started

You can browse Volume without an account, but if you want to pledge or make a purchase you will need to register with us and log in. We rely on you to supply us with complete and accurate contact, billing and delivery information so we can efficiently deliver your order. You need to be 18 years or older to open an account. We reserve the right to suspend or delete any account that is not genuine or where an account holder infringes our terms and conditions.

If you find out that someone’s used your account without your permission, you should report it to us immediately: hello@vol.co.

You may cancel your account at any time by contacting us at: hello@vol.co.

How pledging works

Each campaign will feature a book which may be accompanied by an additional product (for example a print or T-shirt), some may be available in limited numbers. We will indicate the funding target and the time within which the target must be met.

You can make a pledge of money towards the funding target. You will be charged when you place your pledge. However, if the campaign fails to meet its funding target within the stipulated time, your pledge money will be refunded within 14 days.

You may cancel your pledge and receive a refund at any time except for during the last 24 hours of the campaign. Once the funding target has been met, you can only cancel or change your pledge with our agreement. Please contact us at hello@vol.co to discuss.

We reserve the right to refuse any pledge.

Campaigns can be complex and may be subject to changes or delays as they evolve. We will keep you informed about changes by posting regular updates on the campaign’s page. From time to time something might happen to prevent a campaign going ahead and we may need to remove the campaign from this website before, or even after, the fundraising target is met. While this is extremely unlikely, should it happen, we will notify you by email and refund your pledge money within 14 days.

We will email you when the campaign time period has ended to tell you whether the funding target has been met and when you might expect your order. The delivery date is an estimate and not guaranteed. When your order is ready, we will prompt you to review your delivery details and provide any additional information we require to personalise or tailor delivery of your order. It is your responsibility to ensure this information is correct and provided within 5 days of receipt of our email so that we can dispatch your order efficiently. A failure to respond within such timeframe may result in a delay to the delivery of your order or it being sent to an incorrect address.

In the event your order arrives damaged, please provide a description and photograph of the damage to hello@vol.co. We will either replace the order or, if unavailable, refund your pledge money within 14 days.

In the event you are not happy with your order, please let us know within 7 days of receipt at hello@vol.co. Provided you return your order to us within 14 days of receipt, in its original condition, we will refund your pledge money within a further 14 days.

Payments

We use Shopify to process your payments. Shopify have their own terms and conditions. By making a pledge you are agreeing to be bound by Shopify ’s terms and conditions. We would like to stress that all credit card details are held by Shopify and not by Volume or Thames & Hudson Ltd.
