Fully funded!
Dear backer,
At the start of this week, I had every expectation that I would not be writing The Oral History of Guitar Hero, Rock Band and the Music Game Boom. Our crowdfunding campaign was just over 80% funded, but pledges were slowing, and it looked like we weren’t quite going to make it. It was what it was; onto the next thing.
And then, well, things didn't work out that way. In the last 24 hours, a couple hundred people decided to get us over the finish line.
In the grand scheme of things, 720 (at the time of writing) isn't that many people. But to me, it's enormous. I'm humbled and honoured you all chose to put your money into this project and I want to make sure the resulting product meets — and ideally, exceeds! — your expectations. I am genuinely thankful to all of you. I really didn't think I'd get to do this, but thanks to you, I do. And there's a weight to that.
This book will chronicle the true story of one of the biggest, and most important moments in videogame history. That's a job I don't take lightly. While I wish I could get this book into your hands today, it will take time. A lot of time. But I promise it'll be worth it.
So again, thank you so much. I'm in disbelief that this all worked out. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go actually write this thing now…

What did I tell you? This is going to be legendary!! We made it! No 2nd extension necessary like I was hoping for! It’s pretty awesome that the community came through in the final hours. I’ll admit it was daunting watching the pledge progress this last week, but this morning I cried a tear of joy when the first thing I saw this morning was 108% goal reached. Good job rockers! Blake, you beautiful boy, I’m so excited to see what comes. Good luck :))))
